7-Day Trade Hold

After buying from Steam Market, items are locked for 7 days before trading.

Without Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, trades are held for 15 days.

Why Trade Hold Tracking Matters

The 7-Day Reversal Scam

When someone buys a skin on Steam Market, they have 7 days where the purchase can be reversed if the payment fails. Scammers buy items, trade them away, then reverse the payment - and Steam takes the item back from whoever has it. If you receive a recently-purchased item in a trade, you could lose it when the original purchase is reversed.

Trade Hold FAQ

Why do Steam Market purchases have a 7-day trade hold?

Steam implements this to protect against fraudulent purchases. If a payment is reversed (chargeback), the item can be reclaimed. After 7 days, the payment is considered final.

How do I remove trade holds?

Enable Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator on your account. This removes most trade holds and allows instant trading. New device holds still apply for security.

Can I trade items during the hold period?

No, items with active trade holds cannot be traded. You must wait for the hold to expire before the item becomes tradeable.

Why is there a 15-day hold on my trades?

This happens when you don't have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled, or when you've recently changed your email or phone number.
